Issues
As I have traveled this road of running for office, I have been overwhelmed by what people are struggling with under the current administration. Thank you to everyone who has shared your struggle with me. If elected, there are several issues that I will address as the Councilperson for Brookhaven Town's 2nd council district and this has been informed by the conversations I have had with people from around the district and the Town. These issues are:
Government Accessibility
Can you attend a public Town Board meeting at 2pm? No? Me, either. The Town and its services are not accessible to the residents. Transparency and lack of understanding of policies within the Town of Brookhaven needs to be addressed.
Ethics Reforms
Our Town Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals are extremely powerful and shape our Town and make decisions on how our communities will look. Though these boards are supposed to be autonomous and separate from the Town Board, there is some question as to whether this is being upheld.
Gerrymandering
The act of manipulating political boundaries so as to favor one party over another is alive and well in Brookhaven Town and I am running to represent the hamlet hardest hit by this.
Safety
Crime and the opioid epidemic/crisis on Long Island, and throughout the nation, needs to be addressed.
Reycling
The Town's recycling program has many issues, least among which is lack of glass recycling, which is against NYS law. There is a six point plan in place to address this, among other issues.
Economic Development
With Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University making innovations, Brookhaven should be able to attract and keep businesses and jobs within the Town. Additionally, too many local business owners face the difficulties of trying to stay afloat in the Town.
Road Infrastructure
Road infrastructure and flooding are major concerns for the residents of Brookhaven.
Water Quality & Environmental Protection
Water quality is one of the most important issues for Long Island. Environmental issues are of public concern.
Cost of Living and Quality of Life
These quality of life issues can and should be addressed by the town.
